Threaded inserts & machine screws
Hi.
Does anyone know of a local supplier of 8-32 threaded inserts & machine screws?
I ordered from McMaster Carr in the US but they wouldn't export.
Maybe the inserts are known by another name here because I've spent ages trying to find them on the net here.
Kits are available but you get 4 for more than the price of 100 or so bought direct.
Any leads appreciated.

A picture of, or link to, what you are talking about may help.

I got the same problem I have a handfull left of threaded inserts 1/4" BSW but my supplier no longer imports them. I use them for Jigs and such but would like to see what people think about using them to hold an acoustic neck on?

News to me. At one time they were the premier supplier of international projects. Were you dealing with the Los Angeles office? Try an e-mail to Atlanta instead: http://www.mcmaster.com/#contact
Could be, of course, that shipping charges for a small order would be excessive, and refusal made more sense (to them at least). Or perhaps they're now limiting sales to businesses only, like Grainger, AFAIK.
For an alternative, consider ENCO ( http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRHM ). The part after ".com/" may be present contact-specific, and can likely be trashed. Enco is friendly to individuals, and they do have some export restrictions which should be less onerous to a most-favored nation like Oz. Enco's 8-32 3 Prong Tee-nuts are Model 325-2852, BTW. They also have a few different forms of thread repair inserts.

I managed to cadge my last lot from
RGA Fasteners
Phone: (02) 9560 7266
Address:
163 Victoria Rd Marrickville NSW 2204
I must say though, they usually sell by the kilo or something, so you'd have to sweet-talk them into selling you a half-dozen!
Maybe a group buy would be in order? do you all use the same type? Any of them look like these:

I use the one on the right.

They will not ship to Australia for new customers, I tried last year. I actually made the order through their web site, then was contacted via email to be informed that they would not ship here. The still maintain certain past relationships in Australia though, but I suspect this is for very large orders.

at $10 a pop I reckon someone should organise a group buy from RGA. They sell 'em for less than a dollar each ... and sell the machine screws in a variety of lengths too. I'd do it but I just bought 10 which will keep me going for years ...
