Default Top refinish - ideas needed

    Hi friends.

I've sanded the damaged resin finish from the top of my nylon guitar. Ended up overdoing it, and the more I tried to mitigate the harm done, the worse it got. These ugly blots emerged.

I'm now looking for ideas of what to do to make it nice again.
Is there some kind of sealer or something that would retain the wood but get rid of the blots?
Or maybe would it be better to glue a layer of veneer and then refinish it?

    What would you do

It's an old and cheap guitar, but it is surprisingly good and stood the test of time bravely,

    Thanks in advance!photo5057975688358897578.jpg

Hard to tell by just a photo but I think you have sanded right through the top layer of the plywood top.
Do not sand it any more. Options are just apply a few coats of wipe on finish like danish oil and have it look like a very well played guitar or paint it to hide the damage.
As for looking beat up some famous musicians have played some very worn out looking guitars. If it sounds good nobody will care.

What grit are you sanding with Ash? The blotchiness is probably from a coloured varnish originally sprayed onto the instrument, that and UV damage over time. If it were me I would try to even out the top a little bit particularly on the lower bout. Then, as John says get some finish on there. As it is nylon stringed it doesnt need to be able to hold tension that a steel string does and these things are built to bash so I really doubt you have destroyed it. You may even find that the sound improves as you lighten the load on the top by using less finish. Wipe on Poly, 5-10 layers should be sufficient.

    Here's a slightly simpler design.

Thanks for all the answers, guys. I expected to be notified by email if someone replied, so I guessed nobody had.

They don't sell polyurethane where I live, don't know why.

Only now I have the time to do this, so I think I'll go the "relic" route.
When I'm done I'll post some pics.
