So why does every violin have to sound like a Strad? Whats wrong with a Guaneri? or an Amati? Seriously this kind of work has long been debunked in the builder community where there are many shades of sound. We also need to remember that most Strads have had their necks reset to handle steel strings (yes, they were made for gut strings) and have had various degrees of soundboard optimising over various restorations. Most have also been played a lot and this is a key to the sound. There are even some that are all played out and wont sound great again.
Here is one site about Violin myths, hang out at a makers forum for a while and they will all come up eventually. RIN:48 Violin Mythology: A Psychoanalytical Goldmine"We must never become callous. When we experience the conflicts ever more deeply we are living in truth. The quiet conscience is an invention of the devil." - Albert Schweizer

What is of interest is the tonal quality being improved by the use of fungi, I thought that interesting which is why I posted it.
