Seriously.... your woodwork deserves better, save the piezo disc for a CBG & get something like this... $23.50 (Cheaper still if you order it from Hong Kong)

Bracing underway, the rear is done and a little more work on the soundboard to go. Headstock veneer is on.

This has been like pulling teeth, soundboard binding done. Not terribly happy with it and I have not shown where [emoji35]
Getting two different Timbers to fit in a 1.6mm rebate has almost driven me insane, too thin, too thick, both too thin, splitting when bending around the tight radius in the upper bout. Not to mention sticking my fingers together too many times with the superglue. Not looking forward to the bottom set of bindings once the neck is on.

NEVER, wood work is both a relaxing and stimulating hobby keeping us young and sharp....so the challenge is good for the grey power!!

    Hi Cal
I've just finished my very first Uke build, a Tenor. Next build will be a concert, so more jigs to make .

I find your thread inspiring and giving me more ideas to incorporate in the next.

    Keep the updates coming.

    Default Ukulele build

Great, where are the pics? I don’t know about inspiration, I’m winging it! This is my first build in a traditional style so to speak and only my third attempt at a guitar or ukulele. I have been out in the shed this weekend and have felt a little frustrated at this point, so I decided to leave it all sit until I can get my head around it. I will have another go at it next weekend and see where I get. I am still waiting on a preamp and pickup along with some fret markers. I am going to buy a new fret saw to finish the fret slots as the one I have is 20+ years old and I have no experience in sharpening one. My challenge at the moment is with the rear binding, as I have radiused the back, the router doesn’t sit on the back to give a rebate square to the sides for the binding to sit in. I think it will be ok as I have sanded the profile square again with a straight edge. I have only created the rebate where the neck fits at this point, as I need to fit the neck prior to the back being closed up. I also need to put the bridge in place prior to closing it up as I cannot clamp the bridge with the back on. See where all the frustrations come in??? It’s all a bit ass about due to the “f hole” and no sound hole.
Anyway I am glad you are enjoying the ride with me on this one [emoji16]
    Cheers Cal

    Hi Cal,
I have been enjoying watching this build. You sure have jumped in the deep end taking on things like bindings as well as the wood bending. All areas I so far fear to tread. As to fret saws they are no good blunt. I was using a gents saw and messed up a fret board. I did touch it up with a needle file to finish the job. Being rip teeth it's just file strait across. I have since got a proper fret saw with a depth stop and it cuts on the pull stroke so fretting is now less fretful. Anyhow keep up the good work.
    Regards
    John

Thanks John, yep was making do with what I have, the saw is still ok but I would prefer it to be sharper so will get on shortly. The binding was an experience but I’m learning lots so that can’t be bad. I am enjoying the challenge of building this one most of the time. Will keep you posted as I progress.
    Cheers Cal
