Wicked Tele
Here's another on the boil.
Old Picker dropped around yesterday for a chat and he also cut me some tele templates for this next one. Thanks Ray.
Probably an alder body , although I've got the perfect Qld maple blank
that would do this justice also.
Everything else will sort itself out in due course.
And the Drop top is a very nice U.S. Walnut.
cheers,Stu

mmmm everyone comes to the tele eventually - the gentlemans guitar - as time goes on the attraction becomes irresistable
you better get a good b@llsy broadcaster style single coil in the back position to add some chilli to the mix - it's gonna be a sweetieray c
dunno what's more fun, buyin' the tools or usin' em'

i am thinking about making a tele, but i cant see what i would change to add my personal touch, its one of those designs i wouldnt want to play too much with. maybe ill do it with a one piece neck, but using wenge instead of maple and a maple fillet strip. maybe with a silky oak or qld maple body with a white pickguard. maybe ill do it in the thinline (hollow body) style.
ok ive decided, lets get the wood (along with wood for every other build ive imagined)

they reckon the esquire is the ultimate tone tele
just a bridge pickup and some extra electronics on position 1
never played one but apparently the pickup direct to the amp is the best of all tele tonesray c
dunno what's more fun, buyin' the tools or usin' em'

I'm sure I'll build a telecaster some day, provided I don't throw it all in and burn down the shed in pure rage at seeing everyone elses progress
If I build a tele, I think I'm going to have to put a Floyd Rose on it, ahaha

the single pickup esquire is wired to the 3-way and gives
position 1 = pickup + volume (no tone control)
pos 2 = volume + tone control
pos 3 = no tone control but engages a capacitor which rolls off some tops and bottom for a darker sound
by the way that is a seriously nice looking walnut cap...Last edited by gratay; 7th November 2007 at 08:23 AM. Reason: more

Any update on this Oz T? Have you done the body yet? If not, may I suggest a carved top since your avatar says 'carve-aholic'.

Jeez, this one dates back to november 2007 !!!!
Haven't progressed with this one although it is still on the cards. The only likely
spanner in the works would be if a customer chose to have this top on their build. It's a ripping 5mm top and can't wait to build with it !!!!
Recovering carveaholic, BTW

Hey Ray,
What chance a poor novice member like me being able to get hold of a set of tele templates like you did for oz-tradie??

thanks ray
I'll do that.
By the way, I've heard you can use a lefthanded router on a left handed workbench
(I'm sure the big box has got them).
That's where I got my can of purple and white striped paint for my last firebird
HA HA
Michael
