Had to laugh because I've tried all of them and a good few more. I make so many mistakes I am practically an expert at fixing them!

My worst was cutting one side of a cherry bookcase 100 mm too short; I butt-jointed the two pieces together with biscuit reinforcement, and, amazingly, the join is barely detectable, since the grain matched well.
