LIOGIER RASPS have arrived - HOT DAMN!
The first batch of Liogier rasps arrived yesterday.
HOT DAMN they're good!:2tsup:
I had a little test run on a piece of Spotted Gum (notorious for chip-out at the back of a stroke or cut).In the following pictures (from left to right) the rasps used were:
1. My current Nicholson machine made rough as guts bastard of a thing
2. Liogier Cabinet Maker's 9 grain
3. Liogier Half-Round 12 grain
4. Liogier Queue de Rat 12 grain
Pic 1 - 10 strokes of each rasp (using pressure that "let the tool do the work")

Pic 2 - 20 strokes of each

Pic 3 - one additional stroke in the opposite direction to remove chip-out

The difference is pretty clear, and it looks like my Nicholson will go to the local Men's Shed! The Cab.Maker's 9g took off as much timber as the Nicholson, but not quite as deep because the Nicholson is only half the width.
The next picture is of the various half-round profiles to show how with the same length rasp the profile shrinks. From Cabinet Maker's 150mm, Half-Round 150mm, Modeller's 150mm, Very Tapered 200m:

There will some very happy chappies:) in the next few days when the rasps arrive on the doorstep.
I will be placing the last order in a few weeks time for January delivery. If you are interested then you can check this thread, or just send me a PM/email. I may do another order sometime next year, but currently have no plans to do so.
