One thing to be careful about.. putting acetone under vacuum will make it boil
pretty quickly, but also the fumes can attack seals inside the vacuum pump and
cause it to fail.

Might be worth taking the lid with you to a plumbing supply shop.
Things might look standard, but there can be differences in thread pitch
and TPI so they might not fit the way you want.

you can use most any clear finish, but the MOST important part
is that finish must be fully cured before you get it into the resin.
Not dry to the touch, not just overnight.. fully cured. Otherwise...

Decals: laser or inkjet will work, just make sure to get the appropriate type of
material for that printer. Inkjet decals will melt in your laser printer, ruining the
decal AND the printer.

Ian is correct.. it is sugar maple. (the stuff we get our morning syrup from!) also called
rock maple or hard maple. It does take a bit of CA, but I usually throw it in a ResinSaver
and cast them...

Yep.. Neil is now making the ResinSavers. He has the room to do production, and
I can't really fit them in my kitchen anymore. I think he might be adding new ones
too.

there' several types out there.. I've only used the West Systems on boats, not
on pens. But I did pick up some epoxy bar top finish on sale (closeout .. $5/qt! )

Heya Ian! I think the bubbles at the join are usually some sort of reaction
between the PR and the adhesive in the paper/vinyl. And you may get lifting
of the label depending on what material...

try coastalscents.com and see if they ship to Australia. Grab a pound of the
Ultra-Silk. You can add pigment to it and get swirls of whatever color you like.
A pound of that stuff should last you...

Reading the MSDS, half of the product is the solvents. So I'd say putting on a second
coat would take off the first coat.
But .. if applying three times is working for someone......

It is used to 'pre-promote' the resins, so it is possible your supplier would
have it. Or the manufacturer could probably tell/sell you some.

just an FYI .. when you say traditional wax, I assume you mean a bar of hard wax?

I know people who will use a paste wax and do 'several coats' .. not realizing that
paste wax contains it's own...

I've seen this suggestion many times, but I never tried it. I keep thinking about the
wax on the bushings.. which touch the wood.. wax gets on the wood.. wax stops
the CA from forming a good bond...

I use them exclusively, now. Once people write with them, it sells the pen.. and
you don't even have to mention it.. they will notice. They'll pick up the pen, start
writing, stop .. turn the pen...
