Thanks for that. I can’t see how elongating the spring would work? When the QR bar is pushed back against the spring it is compressed again? Unless I’m misunderstanding 😀

Yes that 's another option.
One other of my dads old vices is a Carter non-QR.
Maybe I just need to get use to the added exercise of spinning the vice Ad infinutum !

Tried to increase the pressure of QR plate. I couldn't get it to wind a full revolution without making it impossible to actually...

I actually thought that too... and tried both increasing the spring tension and hammering down the retaining plate as you suggested.
Neither seemed to help
