A hobby of mine is collecting old natural oilstones and restoring them to use. I have a few now, with some been identifyed and some not.

The chisels in the photo are indeed "Pfeil" brand chisels and are consided a good brand by many carvers. They keep their edge for a long time and seen to get sharper than chisels made by other well...

I've been going to these shows for the last few years and they always seem to be packed with people/buyers, but have notice there is a reduction in vendors/stallholders in the last 2-3 years.

Yes i agree with the others, it's a miners couch, possibly late 1890's, Australian, (i've see a few made in Aust red cedar) and it looks in very good original condition.

Could it be Camphor laurel? The timber has a vaporub smell when cut, has a tight grain and used in situations to repel insects eg: robes, blanket boxes.

I have turned a couple of mallets from Olive wood, one with the head Olive with Ash handle, and one is head and handle in one piece. Olive wood tends to take knocks and dosn't splinter...
