ie: pen kit's , walking stick fittings that sort of thing here in SA . The shop I used to get it from has closed apparently (Mik International) and I have someone at work looking for a walking stick !

I import exotic stuff all the time , I get it from Michigan in the USA mostly , I never have any customs troubles !

yeh , only seen small pieces too . I have an antique Riley billiard cue with a hand spliced Snakewood butt , outstanding collectors cue !

you can get the stuff but be prepared to pay . ($150US...

can't say I use any MDF but the Aquadhere Polyurethane I use works great on the hardwoods for my pool cues , I use it much more often than Epoxy and have glued Lignum Vitae , Cocobolo and similar...

The other day I wanted to seal a pool cue butt I'm working on between cuts .
I got out some 5-6 year old orange shellac flakes and mixed it with Black & Gold brand metho . Very roughly strained it...

anywhere else , I can't see on Trend's timber species list !

I look at it this way - yes I make a lot of noise with the planer , table saw , bandsaw , lathe and what not - the next door neighbours have lot's of parties and play a lot of loud music , kids...

A question to Ubeat's , any plans to introduce a "hard" version of your French polish like you do with the White polish ?

Ash is the good stuff mate , Model-T's were made that long ago you can't really go by the condition of the original stuff !

This might sound funny but the best finish is literally called "Gun Stock Finish" , my mate used to get it at the local guns & ammo store before it closed !

where as I'd whip it out to the bandsaw and cut a ****load of splicing wedges and , depending on the hardness/weight , maybe a butt or two !;)

looks a similar pattern to some nice quilted sugar...

shouldn't be any slippage and the nut should be tight - it's for adjusting the tailstock position on the bed , without it being fairly done up the release handle wont get enough bite .

Then it sounds like stabilization/sealing is almost a must . It's not the pens I'm so worried about , however , as I sell the pool cues I make I need as stable a product as possible !
