sorted the problem out by using 1.5 mm spacers and then bought these things we saw at Bunnings called a tile pencil basically it's just a tile aboue 12 mm wide with a slighly rounded top.... -

i asked a tiler today and he said it can be done as long as the slab is sound and i get a full coverage under the tiles with a cement based adhesive.
