I think a mast like this will need diamond spreaders to limit side flex at a minimum. These should not be expensive to implement and could be thin spectra.

With a windsurfer mast you can get around deck level forces by having short stays coming from the level of the boom. This stabilizes the mast enough and reduces the load on the lower mast.
