I've been asked to clear out some surplus timber around the house (very early Spring cleaning :q).

Around .4 cube of wood I would think.

First two pics are 1-2inch...

I use sliding dovetails to attach the top to the frame. Quick and easy to attach and detach if repairs are needed also.

I found a progress picture of the frame during an early fitting before I included the peg holes in the legs, excuse the messy space. You can see where the floating dovetails would fit in for the top...

I recently got a 650x1500 slab from Greg, that already is a bitch to carry, this one must be a monster!

Just from experience, I started with a set of Japanese chisels in white steel. They do sharpen well but don't really maintain it, i did start with an entry level set so it may not be relevant...

I find a coarse waterstone cuts better than the dmt, i have 10" coarse/fine combo and found a 120g sigma stone gets the job done faster. I reserve my diamond stone to flatten other waterstones...

I normally use sliding dovetails to attach a top to a frame, even on a smaller table to yours (400x800), easy to fix and take apart.

Got most of the legs done, just cut the frame to allow for the leg mitre connection. First test fit, a little bit of work to be done.

After a hard day I started on the legs, this joint was a bit tricky to cut and clean, but got there in the end, and after a hard day I thought I deserved a reward :wink:.

Done the joinery of the short stretchers for the bed yesterday, figured out the joinery for the table frame. Still have to cut a section to house the mitred section of the leg. No hiccups so far. :)...

My Sigma 120 works fine, fixed a minor chip on a 70mm Blue steel plane blade in about 5 minutes.

The wide board is Camphor, the rest is Blackwood.

I use boiled linseed oil and gum turpentine, then adding some poly afterwards to add some toughness to the surface.

The point of the hollows is to make keeping the black flat easier, the more metal present the more you have to sharpen. Plus it is more aesthetically pleasing.
