Aim a fan at it - chances are the heat is causing the issues. I've lost count of how many people have told me they are having similar issues each summer and cooling it down always seems to cure it.

What about our friend the ever versatile Z-Vice?. Could you use it to fill one of the two needs when required and then remove it when not needed?

I've just finished watching Roy Underhill cut one of those dovetails and I can honestly say with my current skill level I wouldn't nail it, but they do look strong!

I put together a bench with 100mm x 100mm legs a while back and I think it was overkill, so you should have no problem with your choices.
