Yer im going with hoop pine marine ply.

Acrylic would look fantastic at first. But can become brittle and distort from heat. Sitting only millimetres above the 4" stainless exhaust i have...

Yer will definately be going polished for that reason :)

And yes will be routing V grooves to give the impression of timber decking. That will also disguise the actual join between the two ply...

Marine ply is sounding like the way to go :)
If its in sheet form i may even run small v grooves down it when it gets routed, that way it has the decking effect and also if I need to butt up 2...

Jim does that come in sheets or strips like the decking?
Also does it sit flat by itself if its a sheet?
Will need to sit flat on the vacuum bed of the router when engraving.

bad woding on my part... i meant would it work? could i fibre glass the timer and make it last longer? or would the fibre glass scratch up even worse than the varnish?

Over the weekend i have lovered the rear muffler around 25mm and now its mounted on nolathane rather than the heavily compressed rubber. Doing this has allowed me to remove...

so thats a sidestep. they look good on older cars, like a hq or hz kingswood or wb statesman etc, but im not convinced it would suit a 2010 fg xr6 so much.

show me an example of what you are on about.

use pure argon for stainless and any stainless wire will weld it. but being a marine aplication i would recommend 316 wire also.
Also a tig would be my choice for welding.

There will be tie down rails underneath. at this stage they will most likely be polished stainless and be bolted on with stainless nutserts. also tie down loops will be on the bottom of the ladder...

imo the xr tub is ugly. ait fat and ugly. the guards are way to flared and how the wheels sit so far in just made me not even look down that end of my car.
