These are based on bony structures.

These first pieces are based on seeds, shells and sea creatures, carved in Huon. They range from final sanding stage to final shaping.

Just lovely work, love the detail in the claw. Are they going to be mounted on the burl box?

Huon pine is also dug up out the mud in SW Tassie and can be of a similar age

Epoxies are fine as long as you don't have an aesthetic objection. I find using clear casting resin doesn't overpower the design.

Nice work, the second piece is my favorite and from what I can see the cracks dont seem to detract from it. They just seem to speak of age and natural processes.

Perhaps a collar and registration tag :). Modernizing something as ancient and stylized as that is certainly a ticklish problem, will watch with interest.

Seems like 2 hours of carving to 8 of sanding, thank you Apple for the iPad at least I get music when banished to the shed for making dust. : )
