I once carved a section of some type of strangler driftwood off a beach on the New Zealand west coast. The host tree had rotted out and the wood was very solid and hard- I was hand carving with less...

Yeah Claw, I tend towards unpainted too but with this piece surrounding colors, sun exposure during the day and a light toned wood called for something more to bring the features into relief....
