Thanks Ian!! No luck at local bunnings tho' so I'm going with Briwax spirit based dyes, green and black, and their shellac sanding sealer as a buffer between them and some water based timbermate...

Interesting, the water based stain pack recommended to use the water based gloss, I thought the spirit based stains would remove the water based filler too?

I think i'd prefer to use a spirit based dye like the briwax ones for a deeper finish, this may limit my options filler wise, any suggestions?

Yep, pretty close to $200 indeed!! I used 11 4.8m lengths of the timber = $105 (the deciding factor in the final length of the table), coach bolts and nuts & washers were ~$30 at bunnings, 100 10x3"...

Totally, if I'd used anything more expensive than cheap decking timber it wouldn't have been worth doing, but it was a cheap exercise which I learnt a lot doing and really enjoyed making :2tsup:
