Watch Parts
Hi all
I've been researching how to cast watch parts.
Ive ordered the watch parts and making a roller to form them over the barrel.
Are there any theads or tips for the a beginner.

I use polymer clay base, press in parts, then bake before casting. Others use CA to attach their parts but you need to be careful not to use too much CA as it will show.
Before casting I spray a few coats of a water based clear coat and let set/air for a few days. I then coat the final tube with liquid resin with a paint brush, to minimise bubbles, before placing in resin saver mold for casting and pouring remaining resin in.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

Many thanks as always. I think I got most of it.
Just to check ... I'm a bit fuzzy on how the polymer clay works. Do you roll the watch parts into the clay and then bake. Drill out for the barrel ... Not really sure

Roll a thin layer of PC around your tube, push in the gears etc (they stick to the soft unbaked PC), then bake. Then paint and cast. After turning sometimes, I do find the tube loose in the PC on assembly of the kit, but if so just glue it back in.

Where do you get watch parts from, incidentally?

Plenty here if you don't have access to a watch repairer where you might be able to get some for free.

Wow - I hadn't really been planning on trying it out, but at that price I may as well give it a go!

i did a WIP a while ago, although it doesn't show how i bent the parts it shows the steps i used to get to the finished product ... HERE
to bend the parts i purchased a jewelers half round shaping block ... the postage was the most expensive part ... it works real well and has all different sizes for the different tubes ... HERE
I Use CA to glue the parts on, just make sure you wait around 24 hours before you cast them in resin, i gives the CA time to set completly
i hope this helps
