I would very much appreciate any information, or links to any sites where these plans can be obtained. Thanks in advance.

power hacksaw
Welcome mountpas
You don't have to be crazy here, but it sometimes helps. Anyway as most of them are probably not sober yet! or at least out of bed, it then falls to me to welcome you!
Being primarily a woodworkers site most of the mob here wouldn't get good value from a power hacksaw. As a person with metals trades background the venerable power hacksaw would be the last cutting tool, I would choose as it is too slow.
You may have different reasons for your choice , perhaps it may be cutting while you are doing another task.
The links came off Google and is old but I am sure they could be updated with modern techniques and materials. Popular Mechanics must have made plans for one at some stage, before they got people to buy stuff instead of making it.

Firstly let me add my "welcome aboard" as well.
Q: How thick are the pieces you plan to cut?
For stuff under ~12 mm thick I use this dedicated table saw with a metal cutting disc. The water cooling described in this post is not essential. I normaly use it with a 125 mm diam x 1 or 1.6 mm kerf disc without water cooling. It makes fine smooth cust with minimal burr in metal that will strip the teeth of almost ant saw blade and is becoming my most used tool in my workshop.
For thicker stuff I use the metal band saw at work. I also could cut the smaller stuff on the saw but it's more convenient to have something at home.
Cheers

Special Metal Cutting Blade - Circular Saw
There should be a metal cutting blade available now that will cut steel cleanly with out leaving a burr and not heating up the metal as it cuts. I used such a blade and battery operated circular saw to cut thin sheet, steel house frame and 25mm reo rod. The teeth on the blade were designed to only take a fine sliver of metal and could not dig in to stall the saw. Makita had a saw with a fixed base plate so that you could not adjust the depth of cut (always at maximum projection) and a pocket in the side of the blade guard to catch the swarf. After use you could empty the swarf into your hand and rub with the other. The swarf would not cut as it did not have sharp edges. Brilliant machine and blade (5'' I think) - I held a piece of thick (1') reo rod in my left hand and cut a piece off with rhe saw - the rod was cool to touch.
Hope this helps.

Take a look at Lindsay Books, in particular Vince Gingery's "Build a Power Hacksaw with Vise."

Reading Lindsay's catalog is almost as much fun as woodworking.

Would imagine you could buy a second handy and put fresh blades on it much more readily and cheaper, too.
But if you're really keen as mustard on building one, this might be of some interest...

Got two!
Hi Mountpas,
If you're interested, I have plans for two of the buggers.
The first, and in my opinion, probably the better, is a machine which uses a converted washing machine gearbox. The second is the old school mentioned earlier.
Let me now if you want them will e-mail them to you.
I'm going to build the washing machine job when i get back to Aussie in about a week!

Hello Mountpas and Welcome to the Forum, I have taken the liberty of uploading
5 Photo`s of my P.H.S., Now as this unit is still on the "Most Secrets List" you will
be required to eat the Photo`s after viewing. We cannot allow these to fall into the

I have an old power hacksaw that I'd be happy to see go to a good home. No motor, but everything else seems ok. Located in Brisbane. Very heavy, pick-up only. Price ... whatever is reasonable? Cheers, peter 0438722643
