Finger tipper
Some pieces for a harpy birthday bracelet. Larger nests made from Mahogany, smaller from Blackwood, birds from "Ancient" Redgum. Silk, cotton and wool, brass wire, red nail polish and metallic gold acrylic paint. Finished in linseed oil and turpentine then buffed on bees' wax.

How're your eyes after doing them?

Thanks Skew, yeah eyes not what they used to be, I had to resort to one of those desk lamps with the magnifying glass in them. Had more trouble with finger tip callas, picking up a needle was a comedy, threading them near impossible, why does my head decide my tongue has to come out to thread a needle? Tip: Don't sand 24 hearts through four grits before attempting to work with a needle and thread

Geez Spring I pull out splinters bigger than them,
nice work, I'd like to see a shot of them in your hands while in progress,
what if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

Very nice birthday present. But will she still appreciate it if she knows that you called her a harpy?

I say it every time.."this is the last one"
Here's a photo of a Mahogany nest that didn't quite make it showing the primative way their made. I've thought that turning them on a lathe would be a vastly more efficient way of making them, maybe turn them when the wood is 'green' and let them have their way with distortion. In the foreground are two blanks from which the carving of the birds begin and I'm reaquainted with my fumble fingers.

Everything was packed into this larger nest and is somewhere between here and England as we speak, fingers crossed it gets there for the big day, actually I just hope it gets there at all!
