Has anyone built things out of red box

I can get some nice kiln dried red box and I built the kitchen table out of it, but my problem is joints. It has a density of 1.4 I believe so the table doesnt move much. I tried all sorts of glues but being denser than water the glue doesnt suck in, Even Araldite though it seemed to hold, just sheared on the joint. only way I could do it was dowels and hidden pegs, I love the wood anybody got any ideas.

I've heard plenty about wonderful glues that will bond more strongly that the timber that it's holding together, but in my limited experience chemical bonds are just not up to the task with timber like these. No matter how well I've prepared the glue surfaces they almost always failed at the joint. I think your best option is to proceed the same way as Electronics technicians are taught; you must have a good mechanical join before you can make a good electrical join. By the same token you must use a strong mechanical joint before you glue is going to help. Tongue a groove, mortice and tenon, loose tenons, dovetails...
