Ok
At 2.3mm that is about 10% less than I would go with decent sitka for a full size guitar
But the celery top is 51% denser so your soundboard ends up weighing about 35% more.
Can't see that being a good thing
But I could be wrong.....

Jeff,
I will be having more Celery top soundboards resawn next week but I will not be doing any heavy lifting as the ribs are still sore.
But out of curiosity I will weigh the soundboard set and let you know.
Cheers, Bob

Celery Top Soundboard
Hi Jeff, total length 700mm total width 440mm thickness 5mm.
Weight 79 grams but by time it is taken down for the finished soundboard it will weigh much less than this, I am very confident that Tasmanian celery top will be an excellent soundboard, I sent a soundboard to Peter Coombe a couple of days ago and if he is not happy with the results I will give him his money back.
regards Bob.

Well by my calculations that would give a densiy of 65 kg/m3
I'd be VERY happy with that
But I think you might be meaning 790grams which would give 650 kg/m3
A bit too dense for my preferences
I have just used some on a classical neck which worked well
Now If you had stiff King Billy that would be great......

Jeff, I will double check the weight tomorrow to see if I made a mistake, but out of curiosity why is it that Tasmanian blackwood works well as a soundboard and is used a lot as a soundboard when this also is dense at about 640kg/m3.
Do you have an answer to this question.
regards Bob

As far as usage of Tasmanian Blackwood as a soundboard, well I have used it once on a weissenborn and once on a ukulele
Other than usage on weissenborns and ukuleles where koa tops are traditional, I can't see any widespread usage.
For the style of guitars I build where I am looking for volume, responsiveness, and richness of tone, mass matters, both in the soundboard, the bracing and the bridge and lightweight spruce soundboards work well.

Celery Top Soundboard
You are correct Jeff, weight celery top sounboard rechecked today 790 grams.
As for blackwood as a soundboard Taylor guitars did a large production run back & sides plus soundboard all Tasmanian blackwood and over the years I have sold lots of full sets overseas for acoustic builds with no complaints.
I will weigh some of my King Billy soundboards when I get the chance.
regards Bob
