Default Goanna in a tree walking stick

G`day there thouhgt it time i put up another carving,so hears one i like as it`s mine ,if you gotta have one it may as well be a good`n ,silky oak shaft GOANNA IN A TREE was me theme, a cedar carved handle ,the cedar was cut out of a knot in a branch and then shaped to fit my grip (finger type slots ) at the front ,and the top to my palm, yep it`s comfy ,the shaft is set slightly into the handle ,centre of shaft drilled out about 3-4 inches deep and 1inch or so into the handle,I then knocked a length of copper pipe into it ,enough protruding to be inserted into the handle, why copper ,well i figured it needed strenghthening ,and copper is a bit more flexi than brass,an hopefully be more matching the flex of the timber .Three years on ,reckon i got it right ,chip on danny

Thanks for the effort Danny but I can't really see anything either. Have to go with the other guys on this one... need a bigger photo.

You mentioned you used copper piping as your joint 'strengthener'. I've found 10mm aluminium rod to be great for this purpose. You can even use it to 'core' a shaft made up of a number of different woods. It holds things together and provides a very sturdy center for what can be a spectacular looking stick depending on the woods chosen.

I've attached a couple of examples.
