suppliers of brass adjusting screws etc?
Hi,
Wasn't sure what to call this post, so I hope it makes sense....
I am looking to make a marking guage or two, and perhaps a few other tools and so on. I can do the wood bits easily enough and cut/shape sheet brass, blades, etc. Where I'm stuck is finding or making brass screws with knobs on them - like the tightening mechanisms on a marking guage, basically a brass screw thread with a textured flat circular knobs on the end.
Does anyone who's made tools or anyhing know where I can get these - haven't seen them in the usual places (Carbatec, Bunnies, Woodwork show, etc) or did I just miss them.
Any help appreciated!
Thanks,
Darren

I think this is what you are after:
http://www.leevalley.com/hardware/pa...urrency=3&SID=
You'll have to unwrap the URL, of go to the LeeValley site -
http://www.leevalley.com
and search for item 00M91.01
takes about a week airmail.

You will also need the threaded brass inserts, which Lee Valley sell - from memory, they are under a different heading from the 'thumbscrews'...
The inserts are slotted for screwing into place, but I find it much easier to do with a 1/4" (steeel) bolt and locknut - if the wood is tough, you can easily chip or strip the slot, which sort of ruins the aesthetics on something you want to look snappy.

Brass inserts
Hi,
Thanks for the responses and links, these look like what I'm after - and I'm sure I could do some damage to the credit card on the Lee Valley site generally!
