Grinding Wood Turning Chisels from Blanks?
Hei Guys
Has anyone here tried grinding their own wood turning chisels from the blanks that Carbatec sells.
I've decided that a round nose scraper about 10mm wide would be handy but I can only find 13mm.
Anyone got any advice from their experience.
Cheers

G'day.
Does it matter how thick it is?
If not, buy a 10mm square beading & parting tool & mod it.
I saw a bidan in use at a demo about 4 years ago & after I tried one,
I just had to have one so I got a 10mm beading tool & reground it.
After my bowl gouges, it's the next most used tool I own. (after a corkscrew )Cliff.

Hei Cliff,
The width is what I want, but I want a round end and the mods would involve almost as much grinding as starting from a blank so I might as well save about $30 (I'm not working atm so I have more time than money) and get a blank.

PS - A cordless drill is great for removing corks...

Yeah but.... you's in a big sitty, we's in a big town....
The weight of HSS is a REAL killer in the post.
I usually buy off the traveling hawker to save on the freight costs unless I
score a trip to the big sitty.
After a day or two shopp'n in the big sitty the old mule sure has his 'A'
hanging out on the way home.
I did score a good unhandled 1" sorby scew on a junk table here in Cairns at a
closing down sale for $10, I already had enough scews so I reground it to
make a round nose 1" screw with a long left side.... it's one of my favourites
for shear scrapingCliff.

Hei Cliff,
I know what you mean about postage, I'm in Perth but my brother lives in the Isa and I regularly send him stuff.
When I get the sucker done I'll stick up a pic, I figure an added bonus will be the grinding practice for when I get some decent chisels.
If you ever get to the Isa say hi to a plumber called Andrew.
Cheers
