I have just received a CD with a load of wonderful photos of a Eureka being built on Bribie Island.

I'll put more details up later but you can drool over the pics at your leisure.

Hi all, I'm back after quite a number of weeks away from our boatbuilding (Grandpa has been away and I have been distracted by playing with toy trains!!). Grandpa came to visit on Wednesday and when I got home from work, all the panels were wired together with the temporary spreader bars all in place. The Eureka is actually starting to look like a CANOE!. We still have to tighten up all the wires to bring the edges together, but on first appearances it looks like it might come together nicely.
No photos at the moment, but when I have some, I will post them.
Christmas is still the estimated time for completion (if I do not get too distracted by my trains!!)

Hi Walsey , Good to see you have overcome the minor setbacks ....a project like this is definately character building for the boys.... I had my grandkids out in the Eureka a fortnight back , and we got in amongst a school /pod of 20 Dugong feeding ....Value of my project ....priceless. Regards Grandpa Pete

Thanks for your encouragement Grandpa Pete. The dugongs sound amazing!

The boys were able to get a little more done Yesterday with Grandpa. When I got home from work, I was very pleased to see that the panels seem to be pulling together very nicely (but Oh! What tension on those little bits of Copper wire!). They are working slowly and gradually on tightening up the copper stitches, and when one breaks, they replace it with a heavier guage. Still a bit more tightening to do, though. Is that epoxy glue REALLY strong enough to hold it all together once the stitches are cut? I have visions of hitting a rock and the whole thing going off like a "cracker".

I have a couple of photos this week.

I might need to pull out the "proverbial" and do a bit on the old boat myself before long! (otherwise the boys might not let me have a turn when it's finished!)

This is my first post here. i only just found this fine site today.

First up, let me say congratulations to Mick on what apears to me to be a fabulous canoe design. I love the lines of this one.

Secondly, congrats to Bitingmidge on an epic thread and a fine build. I just spent the best part of the afternoon reading it. A darn good read too, I might add.

By way of introduction, My name is Mick and most of my friends call me hairy. I live on the Fraser Coast, and paddle and fish very close to Grandpa Pete though we have never met. I guess I should add here, I am an epoxy addict and a compulsive S&G canoe and kayak builder and have dabbles with a stripper.

I hope to be able to contribute a little here and there and also to learn as much as I can. From the quality of the builds I have seen here, I have a lot to learn.

Bitingmidge I happened to cross onto this GREAT site by accident. With the different stories I had read. I am now the owner of the PLANS for the DREAM CANOE.
I had a few fears which have been gotten rid of. The fear that the plans would not be complete, How stuped of me. I am in a housing complex which does make building the EUREKA 155 a challenge .
In saying that I love a challenge so with my limited ability look out world here i come
