depends what y wanna do with it.

i was speaking to a bloke at maleny last year that has an asm as well as a Lucas.

it takes him and 2 blokes a ful day to set up the asm properly he wont move for less than a weeks work.

it can only be setup on flat ground.
sure it can push out teh boards.
it is easyer on the operator but its the carying that buggers me not pushing teh mill, especially on flat ground.
it will cut while you tail each board but if your not there to stop it when sompthing goes rong then you can do some damage.
you need good access to get teh powerhead to the rails.

if you were setup in one location full time and had a good supply of timber then its teh mill to have. but if you want to do mobile contract milling.

for intance. a lot of my contract work is in backyards.
i often have to remove the carriage break to fit threw a narrow doorway if i do i can fit threw 970mm .
i have more than once removed teh swing handle to get threw under a low house. wheeling it along on my hands and knees.
we have lifted teh mill in over paling fences and lowerd it down retaining walls.
the lucas is truely mobile you can set it up anyware that there is 6m x 2.5m of open space. no matter what teh access is like.

My two cents to add..... well you all know me by now

Seriously though, ASM compared to a Lucas, is apples and oranges - some things require apples, like cider other things need oranges, like OJ...

I've spoken to one ASM operator from Landsborough, he was rather vocal about issues it had and how difficult it was to work on, bits tucked in behind other parts and hard to get to.

As Carl said above, for flexibility over many scenarios - Lucas works the best for me versus an ASM

Well funny you should pop up and say something Rude... a little birdy flew by and said something about you being impressed with how easy/quick the Lucas is to set up - where they talking about the same 'Rude' guy or was it your twin

but seriously, an ASM for production rates should push out more timber versus a Lucas, it costs more than two 10-30's - so who reckons it pushes out more than double that of a Lucas???
