New podcast up 15 Dec - Michael Storer interviews/talks on boatbuilding and design
While I was in the USA I bought a small RCA audio recorder. I interviewed a number of the people I met while travelling.
I didn't interview everyone. Sometimes it seemed a bit intrusive, but I do have interviews with a number of interesting people who are not "names" (though they might have some notoriety on the net!).
Also I do manage a couple of interviews with interesting and pivotal people and places like Chuck Lienweber, Clinton Chase and a walking tour of the storage facility of the Columbia River Museum at Astoria.
Anyway, the first one is up - with Thorne (aka David Luckhardt) who is one of the Coots - the group of woodenboat people in the NE of the USA.

USA Interview 1 – Sailing with Thorne, Pirates, black powder and wooden boats
An interview while sailing by Michael Storer
Thorne (aka David Luckhardt) is well known in both wooden boating and historical recreation circles (particularly those involving gunpowder) – I had the opportunity to interview him about his boat and about being a pirate (or as it turned out a pirate hunter).

There is a page that counts down a 15 second delay before you get access, but the download speed is fine.
(I didn't know about the delay until just now! Sigh)

Howdy.
I have got my talks ready. However I am surprised by the size of them - there are two almost an hour long and one in the middle is over 30 mins.
This means the file sizes are getting a bit big.
For those that download the files does 22Mb look too big for the two longer ones? Maybe I should break them up further?
But if everyone is used to about 22Mb I won't worry.

I reckon 22MB is OK - but those on dial up may take different views
Cheers

The furledsails podcasts were all around the 20MB mark for a 1 hour show.
So that would seem to be about right.
cheers

Howdy,
The first podcast of my US talk on boat design and building is up on the net. It is part 1 of three.
Michael Storer's US talks on wooden boat building and design - Part 1
This page also has links to my interviews with furled sails a year or so ago.
You will notice that under the title of the PAGE there has been a drop down menu implemented that allows you to browse the main subject areas of the posts. Very convenient.
The talk has been edited, so it can be a little bit choppy - I am an amateur at this! But if there is anything you have trouble understanding I can add a sketch or diagram to the article if needed. Just leave a comment on the site.
As most of you know the tour was sponsored and organised by the PDRacer community, Duckworks, and the broader Messabout community - I thank them again!
Hope you enjoy it!
