dropside table hinges
evening all,
I need to buy 12 (preferably brass) dropside table hinges for a current project. Dropside table hinges have 1 leaf longer than the other AND the holes are displaced towards the outside edge. I know that I can get them from Rockler and Lee Valley but I was hoping to get them from an Australian supplier. I've had no luck yet, Watson Brass and Anton Gerner don't have them listed. Any suggestions or leads?

Fletty,
I ordered mine over the phone from Graeme Brown Antiques. Not expensive, and service was great. They refer to it as a rule joint hinge.

Those are butler's tray hinges.
I haven't seen brass rule joint hinges and I wouldn't like to use them; there's a fair bit of stress on the long, unsupported section on the leaf side. Graeme Brown's hinges are fairly light weight pressed steel items suitable for small, Pembroke sized tables. They'd be my first choice given what's available these days.
It's actually quite simple to make hinges if you desire sturdier ones for medium to large tables..
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.
Regards, Woodwould.

I bought mine from Rockler, hinges were cheaper than the postage.

I dont want to pinch your thread but which hinges are you going to use on the swinging leg?

Hi Les, I was down your way last weekend,
This project won't have a gate leg. The table top is elliptical (1200x900) and the hinge lines are parallel to the long axis NOT the short axis. That way, when folded, the table top will be 1200x500 and fit against a wall as a hall table. There will be flaps hinged to the apron which will support the leaves when extended, I made a mockup hoping that I wouldnt need a gate leg and, as the fold up leaves are only 200 wide, the table was stable until I put 3 bricks on an extended leaf with the other still folded under.
