    Hi,

That is some nice fiddleback blackwood. I have some of that from the same tree I think? Looks similar. Has some spalting with some fiddleback. Sweet as.

Got a production of hollow bodies going there Stu? Great to see you have discovered that single cutaways are the supreme rule of guitars.

    Cheers,

    Peter

Nice piece of sassy there Stu. How did you bend the sides that thick? Steam treatment or with a bending iron? Definately better than holowing out a slab. Should be a ripper axe.

    Cheers,

    Peter

    Some new photos just taken.
Even after 50 years of working with wood I still get great pleasure of resawing wood and seeing the beauty of book matching.
After all wood is the heart of a guitar the source of its sound and beauty.

The sides are 2.2 mm thick and bent on an ibex hot bending iron to shape.
I also bend up laminated rims instead of using notched kerfing. Each of these are comprised of 4 x 1.5mm thick blackwood bent to shape and then glued and
clamped into a form which maintains its shape while it dries.

There are pics on the website of the bent sides stuff and Black sass progress
    in the 'In progress section.'

2 piece sides are around 750mm allowing a little extra and the 1 piece bent sides are 1400mm for this shape.

Keeping in mind this is the size of a fairly standard singlecut electric guitar. It's not anywhere near acoustic sizes.

    Hey Bob,

It would be great if you could just keep posting pics of available timbers on this thread? Surely the mods won't mind?

Nothing like a bit of temptation I reckon .
