What type, what size, dry or straight off the tree? Also, where are you?

The big Banksia (Banksia grandis), up to 75mm dia for pepper grinders & candlestick holders etc, only grows in WA, but available from some woodturning suppliers all over Oz.

The smaller ones (usuable 12-20mm timber) for pens are Coastal Banksia (Banksia integrifolia) and grow all along the eastern coast of Aus (plus other coastal areas?) and you can generally travel down any coastal road/street and get some. They are generally not available for sale, although I will be selling them soon cast with coloured resins for pen turners.

The other ones I have access to (useable timber 20-60mm) are Swamp Banksia (Banksia oblongifolia), that I have also cast for bottle stopper blanks etc. Again, I am not aware of anyone selling them, but they generally grow along the eastern coast in swampy areas (on edge of paperbark swamps etc) and often now planted by road authorities in major road medians.

Where are you? If you are near me you can come around and see what I have. If not, such is life

    Default Banksia Cones

    Hi Ben
    Have just seen your post.
I have 2 large sackfuls of the banksia grandis cones - up to 300 to 340mm long and about 80mm wide. Perfect condition.
Please let me know if you are still looking.
    Thanks
    Denzil
