Default the Kaiser and Ned Kelly

I recently had a commission for two small busts, one of them was to be a 'Ned Kelly' looking character. The other was to look like a 'German' with a helmet. In both cases they were to be mounted on plinths with the names of their recipients attched thereon...

Ned was straight forward except that half the reference photos I found of his armour are reverse image. Trouble is I don't know which is the reversed and which is correctly oriented so I just chose one. Hope its right.

The 'German' was a little trickier. I didn't want to copy a Nazi helemt so in the end I went back a couple more generations for my inspiration. I decided on the monocle at the last minute which I though added to the 'Prussian' effect.

Both busts are on walnut plinths. Hope you enjoy

Thanks guys, they were fun to do. Its good for me, getting things like that that have no 'pattern' in existence... at least not one I know about. When its from scratch like that, one has to do research and develope new patterns and techniques. I sometimes have to force myself into new ground. I'm always a bit nervous about it before I start but once you get into it, it just seems to flow.

The busts are in Jelutong and they each stand about 7 inches or 175 mm.
