chowcini - Thanks - I was thinking something like that or steel bar - I have mobs of jarrah and sheoak
I was searching this site the other day and found something along the line of using hex screws that can be adjusted to touch the walls of the lower section of the T section but before I could save anything or add to favourites my bl^^dy PC decided to have one of its graphic fits and die

Use a hole punch!
Mike,
I had exactly the same problem. Simple and effective way to fix it is to clamp the steel runner securely into your vice, take a hole punch and strike the side of the runner firmly enough to make a dent. The displaced metal forms up and out from the hole, hence making a dimple. Repeat at about 50mm spacings, turn the runner over and repeat. It sould take you a few minutes and the runner will fit snug as a bug, guaranteed.
All the best,
Anthony

Or make a new runner from a nylon cutting board.

Hi groverwa,
As you've already seen there are many ways to fix this but it will really depend on how much you need to widen the mitre slide,
Having been in the same position a couple of times I recommend you start with a row of centre punch blows on the face (not the edge) but near the edge of the slide. Each centre punch dimple on the face also broadens the slide,if that doesn't give enough expansion then there are the methods above, plus....
- drill and tap into the side of the bar and fit non ferrous grub screws (I used cut off brass screws)
- drill 4 or 5 holes through the face, countersink the under side, cut a thin slot either side of the hole parallel to the length, fit countersunk screws from underneath with a washer and nut on the top and, as you tighten the nuts the bax expands,
- replace the bar with hardwood, UHDP (ultra high density polyethylene = kitchen cutting board plastic), propietary mitre slide etc
- go back to Carbatec and tell them to replace the item which is not fit for purpose BUT check it in a slide before you leave,

This will work well, just ensure that you get the thickest you can find - not usually available from the $2 shops anymore - they now tend to be quite thin and very flexible - last time I saw a suitable one they were in those special kitchen shops and priced accordingly.
There are also adjustable commercial mitre slot bars available [C'tec, 2009 catalog, p213, CAT KJ-7303 at $49] should you choose to go that way - personally I would be trying the above solutions first.
Regards,
Bob

Thanks Noel, I need some more and was not a happy camper when faced with the kitchen shop prices, especially as they all seem to have the same country of origin.

Same problem a few months ago with my new Carbatec Contractor Saw....I used a punch, about 4 taps on each edge evenly spaced and it fits perfectly now.
