please vote on what you pay for these retail

Hi all, I know you've seen these display shelves before but I beg your indulgence. I'd like you to vote on what you think is a realistic retail price. What I mean by that is if you saw the price tag attached to these, you'd say that's a fair thing. Not after the why's and wherefore's, just a quick vote from YOU as an average buyer about to buy one.

I would think in excess of $131. It is clear these are hand crafted from solid wood and are not commonly found in stores. Also, I know the safety glass can be costly.

Have to be worth at least the $131, comsidering price of timber even if offcuts, glass, lacquer, not to mention the labour involved. I would have thought 2 hours for each for be reasonable.

It is a little difficult to say without knowing the rough dimensions. I suspect the average purchaser is likely to buy the first one as the reason and techniques/skills involved in inserting the butterfly key would likely be lost on them.
I personally would not be inclined to buy either of the pieces as they are not that complex to my mind after only having had a quick glance and I don't think much of the butterfly key, I understand the contrasting timber idea but I don't feel it has come off in this piece. Just my opinion of course.

I assume that the timber items are what you were seeking an opinion on, I would have a different view on the cats and the figurine......

They look like gallery pieces... put something closer to gallery prices on them. If I saw them in the local woodworks I would expect to see a four figure price. Would have thought there was at least $200 in materials there

I voted for the higher end. It does take some time to create so you do need to be covered for the time and effort.

If these are going to be one off then they will be the higher price. If mass produced, well do not tell anyone that you have ten more in the cupboard.

You guys never seem to understand that the price you pay for the materials IS IRRELEVANT to the person who may potentially buy it. The only the thing they care about is how much they like it and whether they want to see it sitting in their home. If you paid too much for the materials, time etc then its your problem.

Still, I think they would sell well at markets. Do a range of timbers, as I suspect the forest oak (or whatever it is) will be a bit overpowering for most people.

More than $200 for sure. Whole sale. Take it to a few actual galleries and get their opinion. Wandering around in a "cheap" furniture shop last week was an Eye opener. Everyone here should double their prices then add the number they first thought of. Ikea side tables are dearer than $130.

Personally i don't like them much at all. I love the wood used but i'd not have them in my house.
Having said that i fully realize that taste is in the eye of the beholder & i could easily see them in a gift shop for $150 - $180 easy.

Interesting business principal. How do you calculate the sale price if the cost of materials is irrelevant?

Am I missing something as there are some very low prices? I am assuming these units are furniture size (long entertainment size) and not small stands to sit on an entertainment unit? What are the dimensions?

It has to be safety glass? I just used 6mm float glass. It cost about $30 and for that money I had to rub a nice edge on them too.
