Default Redgum stumps - usefule minimum length?

    Hi folks,

I need to set some redgum ex-house stumps aside for future wood turning. But I'm ignorant of this occupation.

    They're regular 10cm x 10 cm stumps.

How short could they be, to be of any use, and not to give away as firewood?

    Thank you,

    Joanna

You don't need much length to turn an egg cup say. Or maybe 90mm length to hollow a pencil jar.

Just bear in mind they can be damp for a month or two after coming out of the ground and need to be left to dry.

    Welcome to the forum Joanna.
    Cheers, Ern

Coffee table leg length? We are turning some into candle holders. They are about as long as a piece of string. (Acshully about 250ish mm ) The longer the better to leave your options open I guess. But you can make something out of a pretty small bit.

Oh, and welcome to the forum from me too.

Like all timber, keep 'em as long as possible. But as Ern said you can still use short pieces for all sorts of stuff... lidded boxes for instances.
