Invitations wooden boat events - Loire River France 14days 2011, Oklahoma (oct) 3days
Pardon the spammy heading, but this is completely non profit. Everyone covers their own costs apart from some shared costs for the boatbuilding costs and maybe some food and travel pooling.
The Duckworks forum is discussing a trip where people eet up in France, build a bunch of Quick Canoes (maybe other boats) and head off down the river for 14 days.
Early interest is from Chuck and Sandra from Duckworks, Andrew Linn (one of the great puddle duck people) and maybe Mike and Jackie Monies (they tend to provide food for a number of messabouts in the USA).
Possibly sometime August or September (2010).
There is no commercial aspect to this trip, except for working together to limit costs.
The group will build the boats together near the Loire and given away at the end. Much like my original idea for the Quick Canoe/Disposable Canoe.

Brian contacted me on Facebook and said he would pass it on to the other people in the UK home built boat group.
Cool.
The idea is the same as a "boat messabout" where everyone is welcome. The only unusual thing (and adds fun to the idea) is that those from overseas or too far away can quick build a boat before the event.

Some of my favourite (originally PDR) people, Jackie and Mike Monies, are hosting a woodenboat messabout in Oklahoma at Lake Eufaula, Friday thru Monday, over Columbus Day Weekend, Oct. 8-11
Jackie and her daughter are famous for providing wonderful food for various events. The last PDR worlds and the recent Texas 200.
They are inviting everyone with wooden boats (some "ring ins" with f/g kayaks, canoes, rowboats and sailboats would be welcome too) to Oklahoma for a long weekend of boating, food and conversation.
All welcome.

More on the oklahoma get together from Jackie.
Mik,
we would like to invite any of your builders who could come to attend our first Lake Eufaula Messabout here on beautifula Lake Eufaula, Oklahoma.
Friday thru Monday, over Columbus Day Weekend, Oct. 8-11
Mike and I are hosting this event at our lake house/camp here on the lake and everything is free. Free camping, launching and parking, with a weekend long potluck of meals under the trees or out on our decks.
We have all sizes of boats coming, from 23 foot and down to 8 foot, plus canoes, kayaks or motorboats are also welcome. Some boats coming are production boats, some are professionally built, some are home built and I think some aren't built yet but under construction!
What that means is if you boat isn't finished yet, come anyway! We personally own nine boats and I think some others are bringing more than one, so there should be opportunity to sail others boats or crew.
We have around 10 Puddleduck Racers confirmed to attend already and hope other PDRS will join us. We have games planned that involve minnow dip nets, noodles and beach balls, along with some pirating. These games are open to boats of all sizes, so there may be some crashing and bashing involved. Racing will be informal and of the "throw down" or challenge variety, so this should be fun. No classes to enter, just "do you think you can beat this particular boat?"
This is all very casual and informal. We have camping on our back lot where the Boat Palace is located and a dormitory/crash pad type of sleeping in back portion of the house. We live on the only free launch on the lake, there is free parking for trucks/cars and trailers by our launch, we have a free day use park and beach for the boats and can have fires, eat down there as well.
We are asking that attendees contribute either cooked dishes or ingredients for potluck meals that we will prepare for the crowd.
In case anyone needs one, there is a motel one mile down road that caters to boaters and fishermen, several restaurants about a mile down road, two full marinas with slips and facilities, and two Corps of Engineers parks with campsites and launch ramps a few miles down road.
We think this will be fun and we look forward to sharing our love of boating with others.

Hi MIK. This is off topic here (no it's not ... I just moved it - MIK), but because you just mentioned it ... (you might want to move this to the Loire River thread)
How have plans been progressing for that Quick Canoe France trip? I think Brian (in France) originally suggested May, but you now estimate August or September 2010 on your site. Is that how it's looking? Are ideas also firming up on how to build the boats?
Cheers,
Grant

It looks like it might be next year. It is a bit hard to follow the thread on the Duckworks forum so I don't know if it was originally planned for next year or if it has been moved to next year or that I just have it wrong.
It came from a bunch on the duckworks forum so timing is up to them.
I have emailed Chuck to clarify.
He is pressuring me (nicely) to join them.

There is a correction ... this Loire trip is for next year 2011
Problem was I was trying to follow a thread on the Duckworks forum that uses Yahoo as the host. It isn't as neatly organised as this one.
It now looks like there is some chance I will be along too as that is the case.

Hello MIK,
I am interested in the Loire trip in France planned for September next year. Not too bad of a drive from the Netherlands and a nice destination for a holiday!
I need to check of course first with my better half Viola (and with baby Leo), but as you know she is very keen on boating as well...
If able to make it, I will bring my tools and I should be able to help out arranging for materials and such (if needed).
In any event: if you are coming to Europe, I am sure we can organise a Storer boats event in the Netherlands. We should have 3 Goats by then (Watermaat, how is the sanding going ) and I think 2 OZ PDRacers.
Best wishes,
Joost

Whoaaa - that sounds absolutely wonderful Joost - wonder if there are some others interested in the Loire trip.
It certainly helps me think of it as some sort of priority.
Chuck at Duckworks is trying to tell me (strongly) that it is good for his marketing of my plans if I go.
Thanks for posting this - I will start to cost it out.
Best wishes
Michael.

September 2011?
Thats a 'maybe' from me then... sounds spectacular, and gives me time to sort out $ and time off work.
What a bloody great concept.
The canoe's get given away.... to a youth group or something?

Howdy ... this is the plan ... for the boats to be given away to bystanders.
If the bystanders can be found or not ... that is the question. Maybe we will have to take them to some local markets!
