Can anyone help me? Looking for beginners class in Melbourne.
Hi everyone,
I've been reading your forums and I'm hoping that someone out there might be able to help me.
I'm looking for a class/course that will teach me all I need to learn about woodcarving. My dream is to be able to carve small items out of blocks of wood but I just don't know how to get started. My father is a wonderful cabinet maker (craftsman) but he lives too far away from me to help. I think that wood grain is in our blood! Oh, I live in Melbourne but I can attend classes either day or night time. Thanks, everyone. p.s. I'm not even sure if I've posted this in the correct forum.

Where in Melb? I go to a class in Box Hill with Ronnie Sexton, she deals with traditional carving techniques, can give you a contact number if you want.

There is a hand carving group in teh Knox Woodworkers' Workshops. they are there on a Friday noght I thonk. Not exactly a class, but there are tools (Lieke a whole cabinet full of Pfiel chisels.) And a couple of more experienced carvers there to guide.
Knox and District Woodworkers Club Inc (KDWC)
It is where I started woodturning. (After attending a turn around with other forum members. ) And now am doing furniture making too.anne-maria.

Thanks Iggy & Tea Lady,
since posting my original question, I have found a group that I think will be right for me although I would still appreciate the contact number for Ronnie Sexton. I was actually told to have a look at her work for inspiration so maybe in the near future I could attend one of her workshops. Thanks again.

Melbourne School of Fine Woodworking - Home
I did a course here and found it good for getting a grip on the basics. I recommend writing down pleanty of questions as Carl is a wealth of knowledge and is happy to share it. Hung around after the course to show me some bandsaw basics too
