I don't own one but I know that they make great milling saws. They're basically an 880 without the rev limiting coil. Their one weakness is their air filters which are probably the worst of any of the recent crop of big saws. The filters block quickly and can fit poorly especially as the saw ages. Blocking quickly is no biggie - they just need to be cleaned more often, but some leak so badly it can block up the carby and run the saw lean leading to seizure. Less of a problem in green wood but a BIG problem in dry.

Another problem is parts which are now pretty rare in AUS - there are still a reasonable part supplies in the US
Before buying one I'd like to see the compression and pull the muffler to see how much Piston scoring it had.

One in good condition could be worth as much as $600-700.

I have 2 of these. Bob is right, the filter setup is pretty ordinary. I have had a good run out of mine. The handle bar mounts aren't stong enough to withstand much of a yank if you get the saw jammed. (so I'm told.

If I saw one cheap I'd buy it.

    cheers

Thanks for the responses guys. Went to the auction keen on gettin the old girl for a cheap spare saw. However two old fellas went into a mad frenzy like the ones you should only see while standing in a boat and it ended up going for $920. The funny thing was it was the same bloke i saw at an auction last weekend that bought an Alaskan mill, saw bar and all for $720. The bar however was for a Husky lol

not a bad saw just watch th crank shafts they had a tendancy to break just behind the clutch i think this was the case with the early 088 as well
