Curly Forest Red Gum
Milled these boards today,from a from a short Butt section,which stood about 1.5m high.Some 4x1's are shown here,with nice grain i reckon

Your right Nifty,they are 'special',sadly though didn't recover much sawn board from the 'ol log'.Has given me a new respect for Forest Red Gum though!

The thing is though mapleman, you can see the potential on the outside and just have to have a look Where i am in WA its not uncommon to come across marri logs that are curly on one half of the log. So its half furniture from the curly bit and half flooring from the other

If you ever have the chance to fall the tree before you mill it, mark the side of the log that faced north as it grew. You may be surprised every now and then that that side feels more difficult to cut. Ive found this in young jarrah
