    Brilliant work indeed
A great warship fully rigged sailing forwards into battle. Every detail correct , including the wind direction . He even has the top pennants streaming into the wind due to the speed of the vessel.
Little wonder that he holds the office that he does.

Interesting. Somebody should have said that to the poor ensign, which still goes with the wind. Maybe to point out that the speed is still not enough for what King and Country expect?

I believe its the effect of a micro-bluster occurring above the sails causing the ensign to splay in the direction it is. Wind does do weird things above sails.

    That it does .
And on the model , the Pendant(pennant) atop the mainmast may well have been carved somewhat shorter than the original , for obvious reasons .
Long pennants could be many feet long , anything between 10 and 60ft were common.
Some could be as long or longer that the ship itself.
They reacted differently in the wind to what an ensign or any other flag would.
If the wind was getting up to storm strength a long pennant might stream with the wind , but that (model) ship is carrying too much canvas for that.
