I doubt I'll need to take it off anytime soon. I'm building a dummy Y-axis carriage so I can get the Z-axis assembly done while I'm working everything out on the bench. I'm basing my z-axis assembly off the blacktoe design with some modifications - namely the motor and screw will be attached to the y-axis carraige and will have a bracket from the z-plate attached to the nut.
it should be interesting to see how I handle it if I do need to take it off. haha

tonight I took delivery of some really kewl parts - gantry sides and y-axis carriage. the steel for the linear guides is being welded up and we should have something to show in that respect in a few weeks. construction has slowed considerably though as I need to finish a series of 5 stools for an exhibition / presentation I'm doing for Pechakucha early next month.
