Rocketship Mark V
Progress is underway on Rocketship Mark V. This time I did some glued segments for the main body. Woods used are Maple and Mahogany.
My sketchup.
Glue up. I found a new tool for the workshop. Wax paper. Made the segmented glue up much easier and less clean up. Saw a guy using on it his turning webpage.
I mounted a dowel in both ends to help lineup the nose cone and the engine.
Mounted on the lathe and ready to go.
Main body rounded.
Final shape
All sanded
Ready for some fins
For some reason Andy didn't want to help today. He bombed a couple of the photos though.
Mark VI is also underway. Sneak peak.
In case you missed the first four here are the links.

Looking good Bret you are enjoying the rocket series too much what with a 6th one already on the bench.
I like the idea of using contrasting woods just adds to it. Also the use of dowels to locate the nose and tail section to the main body which should add strength to it as end grain to end grain is not always a strong glue joint

Thank you guys for all the great comments. Spent about an hour after work today the temps here have been unseasonally cooler. It only got up to 93* today and was cloudy. So the workshop was only 82* when I got home.
I made the 3 fins and glued up the stock for the the fin rockets.
Should be able to get these 3 turned tomorrow and start the final glue up.

Trev,
You just opened up a whole other can of worms. I have been researching this and Thunder Bird 1 looks to be a good subject to build. I had seen the show before but was creeped out by the puppets. But they have some awesome Rocketships. Might have to be another series of Rocketships to build.
