You would need to split 4 mm thick brass in half to drive the socket and into the handle, as the tang is 10 mm wide at its widest point of the hole in the tang is 8 mm you would also need to peen 2 mm of brass at the same time.

Short of placing the chisel in a metal vice and hitting it with a sledge hammer, this would be a difficult task.

I'll have one each of the 12.5, 35 and 45mm, with handle. Preference would be socket, but happy to go with the group's preference.

In response to rat52 queries about needing shoulders, I have added a 2 mm shoulder on either side of tang. This will give a total shoulder area of 4 x 6 mm or 24 mm square. Combined with the socket this should reinforce the handle significantly for even the hardest work.

By making the shoulder this wide I had to widen the socket to match, I however had to shorten the socket to 40 mm down from 50 mm to retain any semblance of a taper in the socket.

I do not have net access to my computer at the moment.

I am closing this batch order for the moment.

With the pairing chisel order taking up half a sheet, and the 4 mm thick plane blades and the turning scraper taking up the rest. The same is true for the 6 mm sheet which has now been filled by firmer chisels, the turning chisels and the plane blades we are pretty much full up.

We may have some spare at the time of cutting, but we will not know this exactly until I give our numbers to the waterjet cutter. You may at that point be able to pick up spares.

I need those participating in this batch order to make a choice. Simple saying "What ever the group decides is not, helpful" and you could end up with something you are not happy with.

OK - I have been talking to Bohler our steel supplier for the last month trying to source M2. Bohler is unable to supply 6.x mm thick M2, as they do not have any in stock. The 4.x mm is not a problem.

Bohler in Austria refuses to sell single sheets to Bohler Australia, they want a minimum order of 10 tons per specific sheet size. Our only options are:

OPTION 1

We buy a 7 mm sheet then we make the firmer chisels about 6.9 mm thick. Making these chisels monster firmers, almost being mortising chisels.

OPTION 2

We buy a 5.5 mm sheet and end up with 5.4 mm thick firmers. At this thickness the chisels will still be substantial.

What option would people prefer?

The surface grinding really jacks up the price doesn't it. Pitty they cant supply the steel in the desired thickness. I would be interested but at $72 each I cant justify it a present

I realise this offer is closed down now, but if you find you have extra capacity, I would like either 25mm, 35mm or 45mm. Ist preference for socket (but tang is ok too) and option 1 preferred. I would take any one or all three if available. All unhandled.
