Sounds really good, i will keep my eye out a an 8 string bridge, i see what you mean by 4 groups of 2 strings that are close together, where do you buy most of your parts?

That picture of the SChaller bridge is indeed the one I have. The saddles are not slotted. To be honest, I am not sure how much that matters. I saw a build with one a long time ago, and the saddles hadn't been slotted. The string tension seemed to be enough to hold them in place.
ETA - I do love the look of this bass. Is there a chance you could send the plans in case I get the chance to build something similar one day?The other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".
