wood for carving puppets:where to buy
Hello all,
I'd like to have a go at carving a puppet for the first time, I bought some tools in Thailand and would like to christen them. I've read Jelutong is good and Lime. Would some kindly let me know a good place to buy blocks of a suitable wood?
Thanks
Colleen

Hello Colle, I think Lime is a bit hard to find in Australia but Jelutong can be found try: Mathews Timber - Home or try posting in the timber forum, you may get more response/advice. Other wise why not fine some good Radiata Pine or Cypress Pine isn't all that bad if you look for a knot free section, what's that other stuff that considered a weed in Aust....um... Camphor Laurel could be good. Then there's the top shelf stuff like Australian Cedar or Huon Pine both of which can be got in block type form.
We'd love to see some work in progress pics if you don't mind once you get going, good luck and good wood hunting
ps. You never know, if you give some dimensions of the wood you need somone may have a few offcuts that will do.Last edited by springwater; 21st December 2010 at 09:31 PM. Reason: post script
