    Smile The Cooroy Toymakers Album

    Hi Everyone,
Cooroy is near Noosa in Queensland and an old sawmill town. At present I'm working out of my local Woodworkers Club workshops.
The Cooroora Woodworkers Club house has a great location on the site of the old Cooroy Saw Mill. The old kilns have been converted for use as workshops by our members.
At present we have over 140 members with many telented woodies.
Recently many of our members made and donated 100's of toys to the Salvos.
The following few photos I'll share with you are my humble attempts at toy making.
They've always sold well at markets and now are selling well at the Club house.
    Rob.

    Welcome aboard CT.

Great range of toys you have made there. I particularly like the car, boat and trailer.
Too many projects, so little time, even less money!

Smile A few more recent additions

Thanks for all the compliments and the welcome, your too kind
I recently got an order for some of the Steiner school educational toys. A doll house, building blocks and furniture from sticks. The Steiner catalogue had prices on their items that was beyond the budget of most young families so I had a go at making some from pics in the catalogue. The sticks are from the front yard under the Camphor Laurel tree.
cost = zero. Other photos are of assembly in the workshop and various other toys.
BTW the castle is from an old design I found in a book from the 50's or 60's. It's a fold away castle, the base is the case. My grandson loves it. If anybody would like the plans I'll post the scans on here with a few measurements. They are a real crowd pleaser at the markets etc. I'm starting a toy making class at my woodworkers club next week , the castle is the first thing some want to make. thanks again.... Rob.

Sorry , there are no plans for the WW11 Blitz truck, it's built from scratch in 1995 from NQ silky oak. I can take a few more photo's of it from various angles and post them if your interested in making one. The following site may be of interest.

I believe the Blitz truck was a CMP (Canadian Military Pattern )

G'day Rob & the Cooroy Toymakers,
Wow, what an impressive mob of blokes you must have there.
I expect with 140 members, they'd come from all over the Sunshine Coast area.
Well done on all the toys for the Salvos.
    Keep up the good work.
    Cheers, Crowie

    Rob,

sime great stuff there. I'd be very interested in plans for the castle for my grandson. I am also 'planning' on a tree / doll house for my grand-son using bracnhes (mostly blue-gum) as the main supports. I have also seen the Steiner catalogue which will give some ideas as well.

    cheers

    Mick

    Default The Fold Away Castle

    Hi Mick,
I'll post the plans today and get back to you on the measurements in a couple of days.
The Sunshine Coast is drowning under torrential rain at the moment, so we're all a little busy. I should have measured it up years ago but never bothered.
    I use templates these days.
Remember the base is the case. It will require a handle and a couple of latches either side of the handle. I use 2 sheets of 9 ml double face ply @ around $15 a sheet and a small sheet of 3 ply about $7-8 to cover the case and for inside turrets floors. ( there'll be some 3 ply left over ) With the timber , piano hinge , hande, latches and screws your looking @ approx $ 80 in materials. I'll post a few more pics so you can get a better idea of the end result. Finishing is up to you, paint or paper.
57510 GRANITE WALL 23x15cm. I've copied this pic , pasted it a few times in a word doc till it covered the whole page, printed it out a few times cut and pasted it onto the castle. labour intensive not reccommended. There are other stone paterns, if you have the means I suggest buying the sheets.
I have one sitting in the Cooroy library now and it has created a lot of interest with both kids and dads alike. I'm sure your granson will have hours of fun with it as has mine.

Default My Woodworkers Club House is very very WET !

As I mentioned earlier Queensland is getting a lot of rain.
The red building on the other side of all that flood water is the Cooroora Woodworkers Club House in Cooroy.
The S.E.S. blocked off the road.

I'll go down tomorrow and see how it faired.
I got a lot of work to do.
The Cooroy Wood and Craft Show is coming up in May and I need to make a lot of toys.

Thank you for all the welcoming messages
