Big log salvage and milling
Hi guys
Back in August I had a thread running about milling massive logs in Central Vic. Krunchie and Tony were using my mill and gear, and producing some magnificent timber, in fact they milled two semi loads of sawn timber from 13 logs!
Anyway, a few people expressed some interest about seeing the big logs getting milled this year. We are just starting to pick a few up now while it is dry enough to get the cranes on the paddocks. Just loaded one butt log today at 6.1 tonnes, a nice little haul. If people are interested we should be milling in April at our farm near Rochester, central Vic. I will keep you posted as the time nears.
Heading off next week to pick up two 5 tonne logs, both cut from the same tree and appear solid from the sawdust. I will try and get some photo's.
Cheers
James

Hi there
I prepped a tree last Friday, and it is not too bad. A bit of heart rot down one end but hopefully that will dissapear along the log. We have got the crane booked for Wednesday, and I think each part of the barrell will be 5 and 4 tonnes, plus a solid 3 tonne branch log. I have taken some photos but I can't post them, as I don't have a program to reduce them under 1 meg in size. I'll work it out in the next week or so.
Cheers
James
