Timberwolf Bandmill Blades
After many years of planning I have finally built a bandmill. Now I have source Blades for it. I am Currently running a 1 1/4 Lennox Woodmaster B. Has anyone used the Timberwolf blades from Suffolk machinery in the US. If so could you please give me your thoughts on these blades or any others.

A friend of mine has and wasnt tickled with them. I would definately recomend woodmizer blades to anyone. Give Brian Barrat a call at Woodmizer Australia and he can help you out. For about $60 each you get about ten sharpens out of them which makes them great value for money. How does it go again Sigidi, I love my Woodmizer, just ask me

There are many others available out there, uddeholm or hakkanson are available and are reportedly as good as any. (used to make and sharpen heaps of them, so got the feedback from the customers) they can be made to any length you want practically.
I am told that sharpening handsaws is a dying art.... this must mean I am an artisan.
Get your handsaws sharpened properly to the highest possible standard, the only way they should be done, BY HAND, BY ME!!! I only accept perfection in any saw I sharpen.

Bob,
I would like to try the stellite Blades but I think the only come in 2" size. My saw is not Robust enough to get the tension on a 2" Blade, that is why I run the 1 1/4 Bimetal. Do you know if you can get the stellite blade in 1 1/4? Cheers Jon

How do the stellite blades compare to the the Bi-metal? EG price of the Bi-metal is around $100 ea. Is the stellite Tip blade better Value? I will only be cutting Aussie Hardwoods.
I Suppose one of the Advantages is not having to set the teeth. Bushmiller have you used them much?

Bi-metal are good value for money. I use them for cutting wandoo as they will hold their set longer than a hardened steel blade. I only have a couple of stellite blades and dont use them for the reason that they dont seem to come up as sharp when sharpened and dont therefore hold their edge as long as a bi-metal or hardened blade.

I bought two blades recently following a recommendation by the people at Henry Bros in Sydney. I had had a fairly long layoff from milling and was just getting back into it for my own purposes only.
My impression was that the stellite blade easily out-performed the old standard blades and there seemed to be a longer interval between sharpening. I did break one blade, but that was my fault. I'm afraid I really don't have a lot to compare to except that I will go back and buy more blades when I need to.
Nifty made reference to some sharpening difficulty. I use a hand operated profiler and had no problems. I take off the barest amount possible so it just "freshens' the face of the tooth.
I did try a tungsten tipped blade once but there are real problems in sharpening those and it was a disaster. An expensive disaster.

The large bandsaws using stellite tipped bands I have worked with. had to have the teeth set & it was critical for straight cutting performance.

Gday
I got my first bandmill a jonsered 6000+ with help from dad when I was about 15 and it was a step up from the leaning over a 3120 csm I tell you lol I ran that for about 6 years on everything from Box/Ibark to Pine till some useless p@!ck stole it
Band blade stock selection has been and is still pretty limited in Australia and prices here are a little steep for my likeing as I was looking at getting a Mk 4B Mighty Mite last year and was pricing bands through local suppliers
I use to run Lennox and Simond's 1&1/2 .042 either 7/8 or 1 tpi bands and use to get good runs out of either of them so i never tried anything else i did try a stellite once but unless you are doing production sawing in clean logs I would not bother with them or tct bands either for that matter
Another place to try would be Cook's Saw Store they have a pretty good selection Lennox,Simmonds & MunkforsSager and $195 (1&/1/4) to $255 (1&1/2) for a box of ten in either of those brands plus postage and will prob have the length in stock that you need to as they seem to cover mst brands of mills over there Mate
Do you have a sharpener ? as i have a semi auto one sitting in the shed here i may be willing to part with for the rite $$$ too Mate ???
Regards Chris

Jon
Unfortunately I don't have the mill here in Millmerran. It's about 600Km away. Not very convenient for either of us.
I would be very happy to meet up with you, although once again timing might be an issue depending on how long you are around this area.
Will send a PM.
Regards
